Summer, sun and wellbeing – why it pays to look after your vitamins in summer too

May 22, 2026 · 1 min read

Summer is often seen as the season when you naturally feel more energetic. The sun is shining, the days are longer and many people move more than in winter. Yet summer is exactly when many forget one important thing: the body’s daily need for nutrients.

Even though our diet often becomes more varied in summer, busy days, travelling, irregular eating and increased activity can raise the body’s need for vitamins and minerals.

In summer the body uses more than many people think

Heat, sweating and an active lifestyle affect the body more than we often realise. These things matter especially in summer:

  • Hydration and electrolyte balance
  • Enough B vitamins for energy production
  • Magnesium for muscles and recovery
  • Antioxidants to protect the skin and cells
  • A steady intake of vitamin D, even in the sunny months

Many are surprised to hear that in Finland a vitamin D supplement is often recommended in summer as well. We don’t necessarily get enough sun every day, and using sunscreen, for example, reduces the skin’s own vitamin D production.

Summer shows in your skin and hair too

Sun, UV radiation, swimming and heat put strain on the skin and hair. That’s why many also invest in wellbeing from the inside in summer.

Biotin, zinc, collagen and various antioxidants have become popular especially in the summer season. Healthy skin and hair are built over time – not only with external products, but also through nutrition and vitamins.

Keeping your energy up isn’t just a winter challenge

In summer, rhythms change easily:

  • we stay up later
  • we sleep irregularly
  • we travel more
  • we eat differently than usual

Many notice at the end of summer that they are surprisingly tired, even though there has been plenty of sun. Balanced nutrition and the right vitamins can help support your everyday energy during a busy summer too.

Wellbeing comes from small daily actions

Summer is the perfect time to build new wellbeing routines:

  • more exercise
  • more time outdoors
  • better sleep
  • a more varied diet
  • daily vitamins

Small things repeated every day often make the biggest difference in the long run.

Remember your wellbeing on holiday too

A holiday is for recovery – but the body still needs nutrients to feel good. Taking vitamins regularly can be one of the easiest ways to support your energy levels and overall wellbeing during the summer too.

Have a sunny and energetic summer!
